photo editing

a photo on your blog can take the post from just okay to something really special and interesting to your reader.

i recently posted a picture of my indie business binder.  the before and after pictures were really incredible.

there are lots of sites that you can use to edit your photos.  my husband happens to be amazing at photoshop, but all i know how to do is add text and a few other basic elements.  so, for me, an easier option is something like picnik.

here is an example of my indie binder edited with picnik and without!

{see the difference?}

now, keep in mind that the first photo was taken during the day, right by the window, so there was a lot of natural light.  sometimes a flash isn't going to help you.  especially when the flash reflects off what you're photographing.  it's better to take the photo without a flash and edit later.  adjusting the brightness/contrast is easy to do in almost all editing software.

with some simple editing, the photo's colors are vibrant and clear.  the white really pops and the definition of the pattern on the binder is more appealing.

one other thing to consider is the sizing of your photos on your blog.  the larger the picture is, the easier it is for the reader to enjoy what you're sharing with them.  small pictures can very easily be passed over.  it would be a shame for you readers to skip through a blog post that you put you heart into just because your pictures are small, dark and lack luster!  if you are blogging with blogger it's super easy to adjust the size.  click on the picture in your post and choose the large or x-large size option.  it's just that simple.

picnik is a free photo editing tool that is really easy to use!  they also offer {no big surprise} a premium option as well.  it contains more editing tools not offered with the free account.

get creative!  edit your photos to see how you can make them brighter and more appealing.
your readers will thank you!
