in the indie class i'm taking, i'm learning all about the in's and out's of how to start a business. i've learned a lot already and am really excited that sometime in the next 6 months or so, i will open a shop of my own.
{insert squeal of delight]
i wanted to make sure i knew what i was doing. all of my research so far has led me to one conclusion; it's really hard work! i know that shouldn't come as a surprise, but when i read about the blood, sweat and tears that successful people have put into their shops, i realize that it doens't come easy. if i don't work my butt off making a real quality product, advertising my business and just being "out there" it will never happen the way i have dreamed it up in my mind.
to help me along, i ordered some books. one of the perks of being in the indie class is all the resources other women have to offer. these books were all reccomended by a bunch of gals. so far, i've peeked into all of them and skimmed through. i haven't decided which one to read first, but so far, they all look great!
i had hoped to get started yesterday, but i spent most of the day getting my house in order. now that it's clean, with a few candles lit, i'm going to sit down, relax and soak up all the tips these books have to offer.

Great resources, thanks for sharing! I haven't been keeping up with the Indie discussion boards (haven't had wifi for a few weeks!) but I'll have to check a few of these out.
(And PS...just saw your Indie Biz binder, and it looks lovely! The green and orange colour scheme is awesome.)

I have the Craft INC on my Kobo but I will have to investigate the others. I still have to finish Craft Inc but it is interesting. they look like good choices though. Happy reading!

i really wanted to take the course, but just couldn't commit to another thing right now.
I have Craft, Inc. It's a super fast read with lists, etc. to think about. It helped me be prepared when I went to my meeting with the SCORE people in my area (free business start-up mentors!) They didn't really connect with the whole online/sewing/blog business model, but we can all learn something from everyone in business. They all go down to the same basic business practices. Anywho. =)
I'll have to check out the others! (Maybe you'll get a ruffler foot in celebration of your store opening! ;-)
I ordered mine last night, like I told you, I'll have to post about that other one I think sounds good. I can't wait for next week maybe we can get our hands on some fabric and paints! I meant to comment on yesterday's but you know I am supposed to be studying, the room looked beautiful, and CLEAN! LOL you know I know, judge not least I could be judged. :)
